Burundi - Kinama Hill
Burundi - Kinama Hill
Kinama Hill is back! We're delighted to return to this incredible nation for the second year running, and to this specific lot too.
Burundi is a country very on the up in it's coffee production; a relative unknown in speciality coffee until recent years, overshadowed by it's neighbouring countries - Rwanda and Tanzania.
Burundian coffee is special, due to it's small scale production, meaning every single bean is hand-picked, usually in small 'allotment' style farms, where each family will own a small plot and a handful of coffee trees, meaning each specific coffee from Burundi will usually come from 3000+ small-holders, processed at a central washing station. This one in particular is from a small region called 'Kinama Hill' and processed at the Migoti Washing Station.
This specific lot, is processed natural, drying the cherry off of the bean gives a much more full-bodied mouthfeel, with notes of Chocolate and Brown Sugar, and a hint of Orange.
Kinama Hill is 100% Red Bourbon varietal, a natural mutation of coffea arabica, the name "Bourbon" hailing from the island now known as Reunion, a French colony off the coast of Madagascar. Red Bourbon is the most common varietal in Burundi.
